Dean, College of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences
Presently, Mankind uses life forms as resources, and there are also life forms which will be usable as resources for the future. These types of resources are called agro-biological resources. Agro-biological resources contribute much to the survival of, and safe, fruitful living of Mankind.
In our College of Agro-biological Resources Sciences, we encourage our students to grow and become experts in “Food and the Environment”. Our graduates are able to contribute to the acquisition of food in Japan and the rest of the world, to the development of agro-biological resources, to sustainable use and conservation of agro-biological resources in harmony with the environment. To become experts, students must understand the local characteristics of agro-biological resources and also to obtain a global viewpoint.
Our program has four courses; “Agriculture, Forestry and Biology”, “Applied Biochemistry”, “Socio-economy” and “Environmental Engineering”. Students learn from lectures including lectures in other Colleges, and cultivate their interest in order to select a course by the end of their 2nd year. By the 3rd year they put together their curriculum by themselves and find a research theme. In the 4th year they work on their thesis research.
Also, our College is eagerly contributing to the Interdisciplinary Program of Life and Environmental Sciences, Global 30 program, which started in 2010. We have lectures taught in English and have many international students from overseas. Japanese students can brush up their international skills too, by attending these lectures and exchanging ideas with international students. Lastly, we have exchange agreements with world-famous partner universities with credit-exchange and student-exchange programs. We offer programs for promoting internationalization for all undergraduate students
